Clear recommendations for proper fabric care
Each material has its specific properties and requires an appropriate approach. Proper care helps preserve the appearance, structure and quality of the fabric and significantly extends its lifespan. Below you will find clearly structured guidelines by material group.
Basic care rules (apply generally)
- Natural materials may shrink during the first wash – we recommend washing the fabric before cutting
- Animal-derived materials are sensitive to thermal shock – it is essential to maintain the same water temperature for both washing and rinsing, up to a maximum of 30 °C
- Materials containing elastane (Lycra) should never be steamed, as this can irreversibly damage elasticity
- If you are unsure about the correct procedure, test it first on a small fabric swatch
- Always follow the care symbols provided for the specific material
Animal-derived materials
(wool, cashmere, angora, alpaca, mohair, vicuña, etc.)
Animal-derived materials belong among the most valuable and most delicate fabrics used in garment making and tailoring. They require gentle handling, stable conditions during care and minimal mechanical stress.
Recommended care
The safest option is dry cleaning, especially for very delicate and pile-textured qualities.
Washing is possible if carried out correctly and gently. Do not tumble dry.
Machine washing
- Place each piece in a separate laundry bag
- Select a wool or very gentle cycle
- Turn off water heating – the machine will then wash and rinse at the same temperature
- Use mild detergents intended for wool
- Disable spinning or set it to a minimum
Standard programs wash at the set temperature but rinse in cold water. This temperature difference is the most common cause of shrinking and felting in animal-derived materials.
Hand washing
- Wash and rinse in water of the same temperature, up to a maximum of 30 °C
- Gently squeeze the material, never knead or rub
- Do not wring by twisting
- Gently press out excess water into a towel
Ironing
- Iron at a medium temperature as indicated on the iron
- Always iron from the wrong side through a pressing cloth
- If needed, the pressing cloth may be slightly dampened
- Do not steam
We recommend using our special detergent PAREX WHITE intended for animal-derived materials.
Silk
Silk is a luxurious and very delicate material that can lose strength, sheen and colorfastness if improperly cared for. Particular caution is needed with firmer types of silk such as taffetas, dupioni, duchesse or bourette.
Recommended care
The safest option is dry cleaning.
Washing is possible only for certain types of silk fabrics and always in a very gentle manner. Do not tumble dry.
Machine washing
- Only for suitable qualities
- Place each piece in a separate laundry bag
- Select a very gentle cycle (ideally hand-wash)
- Wash at a low temperature according to the program
- Use special mild detergents intended for silk
- Set the spin cycle to a low speed
Hand washing
- Wash in lukewarm water
- Only gently squeeze the material
- Never knead, rub or twist
- Gently press out excess water into a soft towel
Ironing
- Always iron from the wrong side
- At a very low temperature as indicated on the iron
- Do not steam or sprinkle with water
- You can iron slightly damp
To preserve sheen and color, we recommend using our special detergent PAREX RED intended for silk.
Plant-based materials
(cotton, linen, hemp, ramie, etc.)
Plant-based materials are strong, breathable and easy to care for. They have a natural tendency to crease, and for some types you should expect shrinkage during the first wash.
Recommended care
- In most cases they can be washed normally
- Shrinkage may occur during the first wash
- Iron according to the recommended setting, ideally slightly damp
For long-term quality preservation, we recommend using our special detergent PAREX YELLOW intended for plant-based materials.
Regenerated fibers
(acetate, viscose, cupro, modal, Tencel, etc.)
Regenerated fibers combine natural origin with chemical processing. They are delicate, drapey and sensitive to mechanical stress and higher temperatures.
Recommended care
- Prefer dry cleaning or very gentle washing
- Wash at a low temperature, up to a maximum of 30 °C
- Expect material shrinkage
- Iron at a low temperature
- Do not steam
- Do not tumble dry
We recommend using our special detergent PAREX RED.
Synthetic materials
(polyester, polyamide, polyacryl and their blends)
Synthetic materials are dimensionally stable and durable but sensitive to high temperatures and mechanical stress.
Recommended care
- Wash at low temperatures, usually up to 30 °C
- Iron only at a low setting
- Do not steam
- Do not expose to high heat
- Do not tumble dry
For gentle washing of synthetic materials, we recommend using our special detergent PAREX BLUE.
Artificial leather
- Ideally hand-wash in lukewarm water
- Iron from the wrong side only, at the lowest temperature
- No steam
- Do not tumble dry
We recommend using our special detergent PAREX BLUE.
